Looking like a stockade, the Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum (1 Birch Ave., 403/762-2388, summer daily 11 a.m.–6 p.m., the rest of the year 1–5 p.m.; adult $8, senior $6, child $2.50) overlooks the Bow River across from Central Park. It is dedicated to the heritage of the natives who once inhabited the Canadian Rockies and adjacent prairies.
It contains an elaborately decorated tepee, hunting equipment, arrowheads dating back 4,000 years, stuffed animals, original artwork, peace pipes, and traditional clothing. The adjacent Indian Trading Post is one of Banff [1]’s better gift shops and worth a browse.
