Beside Fort Edmonton Park [1] (use the same parking lot) is John Janzen Nature Centre (780/496-2939, Mon.–Fri. 9 a.m.–4 p.m. year-round, longer hours and weekends in summer, adult $2, senior and child $1.65), which has hands-on exhibits, displays of local flora and fauna (both dead and alive), and a four-kilometer (2.5-mile) self-guided interpretive trail that leads through the river valley and loops back to the center.
In one room, various natural environments have been simulated with displays of frogs, fish, snakes, salamanders, and a working beehive made from glass. Throughout the year, special events are held, films are shown, and Sunday nature walks are conducted.
