Southeast of the city 29 kilometers (18 miles) is Gregoire Lake, the only accessible lake in the Fort McMurray [1] area. The 690-hectare (1,700-acre) park on the lake’s west shore is a typical boreal forest of mixed woods and black spruce bogs. Many species of waterfowl nest on the lake, and mammals such as moose and black bears are relatively common.
Some short hiking trails wind through the park, and canoes are rented in the day-use area, which also has a sandy beach and playground.
