The 2,688-hectare (6,640-acre) William A. Switzer Provincial Park, 26 kilometers (16 miles) northwest of Hinton [1] on Highway 40, encompasses a series of shallow lakes linked by Jarvis Creek. Most of the park is heavily forested and home to elk, moose, and deer. The lakes are excellent for canoeing, bird-watching, and wildlife viewing, but fishing is considered average.
Highway 40 divides the park roughly in two, with many access points. From the south, the first road loops around the west side of Jarvis Lake, passing a pleasant picnic area and camping before rejoining Highway 40. At the north end of Jarvis Lake is Kelley’s Bathtub day-use area, where a short trail leads to a bird blind.
The main campground is on Gregg Lake. It offers 164 sites, coin-operated showers, kitchen shelters, an interpretive theater, and winter camping; unserviced sites $20, powered sites $26. In the same vicinity are Graveyard/Halfway and Cache Campgrounds, where sites range $17–20 per night.
