For a unique Northern experience, consider playing 18 holes at Yellowknife Golf Club (west of town along Hwy. 3, 867/873-4326, May–Sept.), where the “greens” are artificial grass, and to combat rock and gravel fairways, each shot must be hit from a small mat that players carry around the course. Greens fee is $36 and mat rental is $5, and you can tee off day and night in late June and early July.
Aside from the unique playing conditions, facilities are similar to those at any regular golf course: a pro shop with rentals ($21), a driving range, a restaurant, and a beer cart, of course. Also look in the clubhouse for some great photos of the course’s early days.
