This traditional form of Canadian transportation is a great way to explore the waterways of the mountains that are otherwise inaccessible—places such as Vermilion Lakes in Banff National Park [1], where beavers, elk, and a great variety of birds can be appreciated from water level. Canoes can be rented on the Bow River in the town of Banff [2], Lake Louise [3], and Moraine Lake in Banff National Park [4]; Pyramid and Maligne Lakes in Jasper National Park [5]; Cameron Lake in Waterton Lakes National Park; and Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park [6]. Expect to pay around $20–50 per hour. The more adventurous visitor can rent a canoe and paddle down the Bow River from Lake Louise to downtown Banff.
