From downtown Seattle [5] (Pier 69), Clipper Navigation (800/888-2535, www.clipper [6] vacations.com) runs passenger-only ferries to Victoria’s Inner Harbour [7]. Full fare is adult US$86 one-way, US$140 round-trip. In summer, sailings are made five times daily, with the service running the rest of the year on a reduced schedule. Travel is discounted off-season, and year-round for seniors and children.

North of Seattle, Anacortes is the departure point for Washington State Ferries (206/464-6400, 250/381-1551, or 888/808-7977, www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries [8]) to Sidney [9] (on Vancouver Island, 32 kilometers/20 miles north of Victoria), with a stop made en route in the San Juan Islands [10]. Sample fares are adult US$16, senior US$8, child US$12.80, vehicle and driver US$53.70. Make reservations at least 24 hours in advance.

The final option is to travel from Port Angeles [11] to Victoria. Two companies offer service on this route. The MV Coho (250/386-2202 or 360/457-4491, www.cohoferry.com [12]) runs year-round, with up to four crossings daily in summer; adult US$11.50, child US$5.75, vehicle and driver US$44. The passenger-only Victoria Express (250/361-9144 or 360/452-8088, www.victoriaexpress.com [13]) makes the crossing 2–4 sailings daily June–Sept.; US$12.50 per person each way.
