To call Amelie’s eclectic is an understatement. The pastel walls, mismatched furniture, chintz curtains, shabby-chic furniture, and chandeliers make the space feel like it’s a perfect combination of art studio, antiques shop, and dollhouse.
Chocolate croissants, fruit tarts, cream puffs, French macaroons, lemon cream cheese pockets, tea cakes, and cinnamon raisin buns are served on mismatched plates, which makes them feel even more like sweets grandma just pulled from the oven.
This addition to Charlotte [2]’s arts district is open 24/7 and fresh pastries are added to the bakery case around the clock—which is a good thing considering that the floral sofas and wicker chairs are filled at all hours of the day and night.
Amelie’s opened in 2008 and has already earned several awards for its baked goods. Homemade soup, French bread, and sandwiches are on the lunch menu. Just be sure to save room for dessert—it is a bakery, after all.
