Fair maidens and village idiots are out in full force during the Carolina Renaissance Festival. It’s part festival, part live theater, as 500 costumed performers wander the grounds to dole out public punishments and serenade festivalgoers with over-the-top songs.

There are 100 craftspeople selling their work in the artisan marketplace, but it’s difficult to focus on shopping when there are jousting knights on horseback, circus performers, and bouts of public humiliation from the village idiot.
