American Folk Art Museum

Recently relocated to 53rd Street from its old digs directly across from Lincoln Center [1] is the American Folk Art Museum (45 W. 53rd St., between 5th and 6th Aves., 212/977-7170, www.folkartmuseum.org [2], 10:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Tues.–Thurs. and Sat.–Sun., 11 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Fri., adults $9, seniors and students $7, under 12 free).

Now housed in an airy eight-story building—complete with a striking central atrium/staircase—the museum exhibits a wide range of folk art, including quilts, toys, weather vanes, paintings, sculpture, handmade furniture, and the like.

Temporary exhibits often focus on the work of individual self-taught artists.
