If you continue north of Annandale-on-Hudson [1] on Route 9G to Route 78 and head west, you’ll come to the hamlet of Tivoli. Henry Hudson is thought to have anchored offshore here in 1609, and nearby Crugers Island may once have been an important meeting ground for the local Wappinger and upstate Iroquois Indians.
Today, Tivoli is a popular hangout for Bard College students and professors; hence its many restaurants and bars. Among the most popular is the boisterous
Santa Fe (52 Broadway, 845/757-4100, $17), offering authentic Southwestern and Mexican food. In summer, a small outdoor dining area opens upstairs. Also a favorite, serving tasty, high-quality sushi, tempura, and noodles in a more relaxed setting, is Osaka (74 Broadway, 845/757-5055, $18).
At the Black Swan Pub (66 Broadway, 845/757-3777), you can hear live rock, folk, or bluegrass music most nights of the week. On tap are about a dozen beers, while out back is a patio adorned with twinkling lights.
