One of Woodstock [1]’s oldest restaurants is the hole-in-the-wall Joshua’s (51 Tinker St., 845/679-5533), serving simple but tasty Middle Eastern fare. The Garden Café (6 Old Forge Rd., 845/679-3600, $11) in the village green serves up vegetarian and vegan fare even carnivores could appreciate.
Another local favorite is the Red Onion (1654 Rte. 212, 845/679-1223, $17). Housed in an 1830s farmhouse on the outskirts of town, the restaurant serves an eclectic international fare.
In the Bearsville Theater Complex in Bearsville is the streamside
Bear Cafe (off Rte. 212, 845/679-5555, $18), housed in a modern barn-like building with a big, comfortable bar. On the menu is imaginative American fare ranging from blackened chicken to grilled fish. Next door to the Bear Cafe is Little Bear (845/679-8899), offering tasty Chinese food with lovely streamside outdoor seating.
