Numerous casual restaurants stand along James and Market Streets downtown. Among them is the lively Dockside Pub (17 Market St., 315/482-9849), serving sandwiches, soups, and pizza in a setting near the water.
Hidden waterfront hotspot Foxy’s (at Fisher’s Landing between Clayton [1] and Alexandria Bay [2], 315/686-1191) is a small family-run eatery with great lobster bisque and an even better view of the sunset.
The historic Admiral’s Inn (20 James St., 315/482-2781, $16) features a comfortable bar to one side, several cheery dining rooms to the other. Sandwiches and salads are offered at lunch, while dinner entrées include prime rib and fresh seafood.
The best restaurant in town is the Jacques Cartier Dining Room (17 Holland St., 315/482-9917, www.riveredge.com [3], $21) in the Riveredge Resort Hotel. On the menu is creative American and French cuisine. The dining room offers fine views of Boldt Castle [4].
