Artpark

At the southern edge of Lewiston [1] reposes the 200-acre Earl W. Brydges Artpark (150 S. 4th St., 716/754-9000, www.artpark.net [2], 8 a.m.–dusk daily, parking $6–8), the only state park in the United States devoted to the visual and performing arts. During the summer, all sorts of events are staged, including storytelling, acrobatics, and theater and dance workshops (free–$7).

Other park features include hiking trails; a 2,300-seat Artpark Theater, bringing in national acts; and a burial mound dating back over 2,000 years, to when the area was inhabited by the Hopewell Indians. Thirty feet long by 20 feet wide, the mound is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
