Connected with the University of Rochester, the Memorial Art Gallery (500 University Ave., between Prince and Goodman Sts., 585/473-7720, http://mag.rochester.edu [1], 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Wed.–Sun., 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Thurs., adults $10, seniors $6, students and children 6–18 $5) is a small gem, containing a little bit of everything, from pre-Columbian sculpture and ancient Chinese ceramics to American folk art and late-20th-century painting.
The gallery owns more than 9,500 objects in all, spanning 5,000 years; a dozen or so temporary exhibitions are staged each year. In the center of the gallery is an enclosed, skylit sculpture garden filled with works by Henry Moore and Albert Paley, a known Rochesterian.
