Michelle Waitzman was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, where she worked in TV production for almost 20 years. Between production gigs, Michelle's natural wanderlust took her on adventures around the planet – including her first, fateful trip to New Zealand in 1998, where the down-to-earth people and breathtaking scenery won her over.

Michelle made the move to Wellington in 2005 to enjoy New Zealand's legendary great outdoors and friendly hobbits. (The hobbits, sadly, turned out to be fictional.) TV and film work was slow to come, so she seized the opportunity to pursue her writing career. Inspired by New Zealand's passion for “tramping” (backpacking) and by her future husband, she wrote her first book, Sex in a Tent: A Wild Couple's Guide to Getting Naughty in Nature.

Michelle currently works as a freelance writer and editor. Now a New Zealand citizen, she delights in helping others make the move; authoring three editions of Moon Living Abroad New Zealand has given her the perfect outlet to do so. Many of her personal experiences have helped to shape the book, from figuring out how to fit into a Kiwi workplace to discerning the real New Zealand experience from the popular stereotypes.

Born to British immigrants, journalist Rosemary Jones grew up in Bermuda and still calls the island home, though she has also lived in Toronto, Madrid, Paris, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean.

For more than a decade, Rosemary has been editorial director of Brimstone Media Ltd., a Bermuda-based company she launched with her journalist husband to produce and package books, magazines, museum exhibits, films, and other creative ventures. She is a contributor to People and Islands, has worked for the Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, and Broadcast News/Canadian Press, and has been published in numerous North American newspapers and magazines. She is also a former editor of The Bermudian magazine, and has written several history books about the island, including Hall of History: Bermuda’s Story in Art, Bermuda: Five Centuries for Young People, and Bermuda: Five Centuries-winner of the Bermuda Literary Award for Non-Fiction.

Sacha Jackson first visited Québec as an eighth-grader. Years later, she moved to Montréal with a high school diploma and a bad French accent. As a student there, she learned that the best way to get to know the city was on a bike, spending many nights touring the quiet, tree-lined streets and racing friends down Mont-Royal.

After graduating from college, Sacha lived in London and Toronto before settling back in Montréal. Two of her favorite things about the city are its impractical outdoor circular staircases and the smell of hot bagels; as for Québec City, she makes regular visits there to wander its cobbled streets and picnic on the Plains of Abraham.

Jaime Jacques has been fulfilling her passion for travel ever since she traveled to India as a two-year-old to meet her dad's side of the family. Frequent family travel soon had her mesmerized by the sights, sounds, and smells of other cultures. After earning a bachelor of science from Dalhousie University in her hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia, she set out on her first backpacking trip through Asia. She returned to Canada to complete a postgraduate degree in magazine journalism at Ryerson University in Toronto. She later lived and worked in Cambodia, Bulgaria, Ghana, and Sudan before deciding it was time for something new.

In 2011, Jaime dusted off her backpack and headed off on her first Central American adventure. She spent a year and a half exploring before ending up in El Salvador, which captured her heart with its striking landscape and altruistic people. She has since traveled throughout this small but diverse country by bus, bike, car, and on foot, encountering random acts of kindness in every corner. Jaime spends her time hiking through El Salvador's beautiful cloud forests and climbing its volcanoes, exploring San Salvador's romantic historic center, and indulging in national dishes and drinks-especially pupusas and horchata.

Jaime's work has appeared in The Cambodia Daily, The Sofia Echo, The Ghanaian Chronicle, New Internationalist, Adbusters, and Spacing. She currently splits her time between El Salvador and Canada.
