Guide on managing postback tracking

As an affiliate working with various companies, it's important to efficiently track and analyze your campaign performance across these diverse platforms. This not only helps in understanding which campaigns are performing well but also aids in optimizing your strategies for better results. Recognizing this need, many affiliates like yourself turn to third-party solutions that consolidate this crucial campaign data.

For those partnering with Moon, there's a powerful feature designed to seamlessly integrate your campaign data into these third-party platforms: Postbacks.

Understanding Postbacks on Moon

Postbacks are a way for Moon to automatically send real-time data about specific actions (like registrations or deposits made through your campaigns) directly to your chosen tracking platform. You provide a URL, known as the postback URL, and Moon sends a GET request to it every time a user referred by that campaign triggers the event. This means you can have up-to-the-minute insights into how your campaigns are performing on Moon.

Postbacks only fire for users who registered through your campaign link.

How to Set Up Your Postback URL

Setting up your postback URL on Moon is straightforward. Once your Affiliate Manager has granted your account postback access, you can manage this from the Affiliate Program section under your campaigns. Here's how:

Access Your Campaigns

Open your campaigns page on Moon.

Add a Postback

Each campaign has an Add Postback option. Choose the event you want to track (Register, Deposit, First Time Deposit or VIP Level Up) and enter the URL your tracking platform gave you.

Customize Your URL

Your URL can include variables that are replaced with real data (like the amount deposited) each time the event fires. Refer to the table below for the variables available for each event.

Edit or Delete as Needed

Each campaign holds one postback URL per event. Adding a URL for an event that already has one replaces it, and you can remove a postback at any time as your requirements evolve.

Please note, the following variables are case sensitive.

FTD - First Time Deposit

Fires once per user, on their first deposit after registering through your campaign.

Templates containing variables that aren't available for the selected event are rejected.

Below is an example of the 3-step postback integration between Moon and your tracking platform.

Obtain and Configure Postback URLs

To track your campaigns accurately, set up two postback URLs: one for registrations and another for deposits. Here's how to get started:

Registrations:
In your tracking platform, navigate to its postback URL settings and obtain the postback URL for lead registration. It typically looks like this:

https://api.your-domain.com/callback?user={{username}}&event=lead

Deposits:
Similarly, locate the postback URL for recording deposits. It generally appears as follows:

https://api.your-domain.com/callback?user={{username}}&event=sale&amount={{value}}

Note:

{{username}} is the exact variable required by Moon and is case sensitive. It's replaced with the referred user's Moon username when the postback is sent.
user, event=sale, or event=lead are parameter names your tracking platform expects and can differ from platform to platform.

Add the Postback URLs to your Moon campaign

From your campaigns page, use Add Postback on the campaign, select Register for the first URL and Deposit for the second.

Share Your Campaign Link

Your campaign link is shown on the campaign card and includes your unique Campaign ID. Anyone who registers through it is attributed to that campaign, and its postbacks fire for them automatically. No extra tracking tokens are needed:

https://moon.com/?c=YourCampaignID
