6 Places to Visit from Apple TV+’s Severance

Apple TV+’s Severance is set in the fictional town of Kier, PE, but if your outie wants to explore some of the real-life locations, you can visit the places the show was filmed. The Hudson Valley, the Catskills, and Newfoundland, Canada look fairly chilly on the show, but they have so much to offer travelers. Just get in your VW White Rabbit and crank up the Stone Roses for this mind-bending trip.

One of New York’s many stunning spots for outdoor recreation, this 12,000 acre park stands in for Dieter Eagan State Park, where the innies have their ORTBO. While Awosting Falls is location of Woe’s Hollow, the “tallest waterfall in the world,” the true elevation of Minnewaska State Park is only about 2,000 feet. Hikers have a full menu of options within Minnewaska, from easy 2-mile routes to challenging 10-mile loops.

Several Severance scenes were filmed in this trendy Ulster County city, including Irving’s apartment and the Great Doors factory. Once an important Dutch trading post, the city’s historical Stockade District is filled with colorful brick facades of mauve, orange, and lima-bean green homes. When you leave the Stockade District, follow Broadway to its end at Rondout Landing, where a handful of eateries and boutiques continue to bring new life and energy to this creekside village. In summer, you can have dinner on the patio and finish the evening with a stroll along the Rondout Creek.

Port Union is the only town in Canada to have been established by a labor union, so it’s ironic that the exterior shots of Lumon’s Ether Mill, where child labor was regularly used, were filmed at the town’s old fish-processing plant. From Port Union, continue north to reach the Elliston Puffin Viewing Site, one of the most accessible places in the world to see this distinctive bird up close. Thousands of puffins are present between May-September, with the best viewing in the early morning and evening, when visitor numbers are lower.

Salt’s Neck is a fictional location, but many of the scenes were shot in this Canadian town, which has a colorful array of homes and businesses surrounding a harbor filled with fishing boats. The photogenic 1843 Cape Bonavista Lighthouse crowns a steep and rocky headland. The keeper’s quarters inside the red-and-whitestriped tower have been restored to the 1870 period. A climb up steep steps leads to the original catoptric light with Argan oil burners and reflectors.
