Where to Eat in Princeville, Kaua‘i
Princeville has a nice selection of restaurants to suit a range of budgets. Types of food available are classic American fare and other usual suspects with a unique island twist; even the supermarket deli offerings are a tasty option perfect for a day at the beach.
CJ’s Steak & Seafood (5-4282 Kuhio Hwy., 808/826-6211, lunch 11:30am-2:30pm Mon.-Fri., dinner 6-9:30pm daily, $15-38) is a steakhouse in the Princeville Center with a Pacific twist to most dishes. As at many steakhouses, saddles and other western-themed decorations are found throughout. The open-beam-ceilinged restaurant has seating indoors or on the lanai. Lunch and dinner are both offered with a wide array of pupu. Lunch consists of hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, and salads, ranging $10-12. Dinner offers a salad bar, freshly caught local fish, lobster, and prime rib. A senior and children’s menu offers a discount for their meals.
The Kaua‘i Grill (808/826-9644, 5:30-9:30pm Tues., Wed., and Thurs., 5:30-10pm Fri. and Sat., $15-32) inside the St. Regis Princeville Resort offers sweeping views of beautiful Hanalei Bay. The eatery stays true to its surroundings with a nautilus shell spiraling ceiling. Chef Colin Hazama, who was recently recognized by the James Beard Foundation as a finalist in the Rising Star Chef of the Year category, cooks up a tasting menu, unique salads, a vegetarian menu, and lamb, meats, and fish, all with a unique island twist. A kids’ menu helps keep the prices down.
Grocery store Foodland (Princeville Center, 5-4280 Kuhio Hwy., 808/826-9880, 6am-11pm daily) sells not only food that needs to be prepared, but deli foods like fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, fries, freshly made sushi, and much more. The made-to-order sandwiches are pretty good for about $6, and are perfect for a beach day.
