New York City Map: Lower Manhattan, Tribeca, and Chinatown
Spreading out from the southern tip of the island, Lower Manhattan is the oldest section of the city. Bustling with worker bees during the day, it tends to empty after dark. However, as big banks relocate from the financial district to Midtown, a few young residents have come to the neighborhood, and with them, some trendy places to eat and drink.
For visitors, Lower Manhattan is the jumping-off point for some of the city’s most popular landmarks, including ferry rides from Battery Park to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, or a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Wall Street, anchored by the New York Stock Exchange, extends east of Broadway, its bolt-upright skyscrapers blocking out the sun. Nearby, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum features a handsome pair of cascading fountains built in the footprints of the Twin Towers, just below the glimmering facade of One World Trade. Heading northeast past South Street Seaport and City Hall, you hit Chinatown, where bustling streets and culinary adventures abound. To the west, Tribeca is New York’s wealthiest zip code, filled with former warehouses that have been transformed into fashionable restaurants, nightclubs, and boutiques.
