The Ultimate Honeymoon in Tahiti & French Polynesia
Planning a trip to French Polynesia with your sweetie? Whether you’re celebrating a wedding, honeymoon, or anniversary, this weeklong vacation itinerary for Moorea, Bora Bora, and Tahiti keeps the champagne flowing and the romantic vibes going.
Days 1-3: Moorea
Day 1
After arriving in Papeete, catch the 15-minute flight or 40-minute ferry ride from Papeete to Moorea. Check into one of the properties with overwater bungalows, like Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort or Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa. Enjoy unwinding at the property’s white sand beaches before checking in for a couples’ spa treatment to ease out any post-travel stress. Dine on-site.
Day 2
Go for a sunrise swim from your bungalow before getting picked up for a whale- and dolphin-watching excursion. Some operators stop at snorkel spots replete with shy reef sharks and stingrays. Tonight, dine at one of Moorea’s small restaurants around the island such as Rudy’s.
Day 3
Set out to explore Moorea’s wild interior: rent a car and drive to the top of Belvedere Lookout, where views of Moorea’s emerald mountainous landscape are seen. The Three Coconut Trees Trail makes for a fun few-hour hike. If you prefer to join a tour, book one that ventures to the top of Magic Mountain for a spectacular view of Moorea’s lagoon. For lunch, head to Coco Beach Moorea for a quaint meal on a little motu. In the afternoon, embark on a sunset cruise of Moorea’s lagoon for a toast to the setting sun.
Days 4-6: Bora Bora
Day 4
Fly 50 minutes to the airport of Bora Bora and then catch the private boat to your private motu resort, like the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, St. Regis Bora Bora, or Le Bora Bora. If you’re on a budget, there are basic overwater bungalows to enjoy at Oa Oa Lodge. Go for a swim at the resort’s pool or in the sea from the comforts of your bungalow’s swim deck, then read undisturbed under the shade. If there’s a Polynesian dance performance tonight, be sure to enjoy the show!
Day 5
Wake up and order breakfast from room service, delivered by outrigger canoe. Then, venture onto Bora Bora’s turquoise lagoon on a day cruise— most include spots to snorkel and a private picnic lunch. Or, if you prefer to see the island from above, a scenic helicopter ride is in order. The helicopter usually laps the interior of Bora Bora’s lagoon, revealing mesmerizing blues of every shade. Enjoy dinner at the resort.
Day 6
Catch the shuttle boat from your resort to the main island of Bora Bora and take a circle island tour, stopping at Matira Beach, the naval cannons, and a few scenic lookout points. The island also has boutique black pearl shops worthy of perusing. For dinner, enjoy an intimate dining experience at Villa Mahana, which includes transport to the Vaitape Wharf.
Day 7: Tahiti
After a morning swim, catch the 50-minute flight back to Tahiti. If you have a full day, stay at Intercontinental Tahiti Resort & Spa to soak in an infinity pool or get a massage with monoï oil at their on-site spa. Or, if you prefer to sightsee, head into the center of Papeete to browse the Papeete Market and walk along the waterfront. Make reservations at Hei to end your journey with a fine dining experience.
